M is for Mary ~

Ok, I know I said I was done with kitten posts, but I decided to do just one more (for now anyway). My little Moonshine is a tabby cat. True Tabbies have an 'M' on their foreheads.

There are several amusing legends about how tabby cats got their 'M'. The most popular of these legends tells us that when the baby Jesus was lying in the manger he started to shiver with the cold. Mary covered the baby with blankets but still he kept shivering. Mary then asked all the animals to move closer to the manger so that their body heat would warm Jesus.
The animals stood as close to the manger as they could but the baby Jesus remained cold and shivering. After a time a small cat with tabby markings jumped into the manger and snuggled next to Jesus. Before long the baby had stopped shivering and was sound asleep, contented and warm.
In her gratitude to the tabby Mary made the mark of her own initial, upon the cat's forehead so that tabby cats will forever remind the world of how they warmed baby Jesus from the cold.

I heard this several years ago and thought it was so sweet. I was just reminded of it the other day and wanted to share it with you. I think it's true . . . .well, it could be??

Since this is my last kitten post for a while, I'll tell you that she and Shotzie are playing very well together now and I think they are on their way to friendship. I've been discouraged a bit because Moonshine has not been very receptive to Brandon or me. However, the strangest thing happened Tuesday night. She had tape worms and I got some tape worm pills for her. I was to give her one and I knew from previous experience that this would not be an easy job. Just imagine trying to cram a pill down the throat of something that has 18 (or 20 - not sure) little swords on it that are slicing at you from all angles! Anyhoo, I managed it after about 7 minutes of trying. She was struggling and slicing, but right after she swallowed that pill, she just fell in love with me! She got in my arms and let me hold and pet her, she crawled up to my shoulder and sat on it for a bit, she just could not get enough of me. She's been this way ever since. It is just so cool! Brandon has not been home because he's staying at Maman'nem's house taking care of their dogs while they are on vacation in upstate New York. Hopefully, she'll love him too when he returns.

By the by . . . . can anyone tell from pictures I've posted before, if this kitten might be long or short-haired? She's pretty fuzzy but I wonder if that is just kitten fur.
