When I was a kid I had 2 caterpillars for eye brows. They didn’t quite meet in the middle to form the infamous unibrow, but they were really noticeable. I was such a weenie that plucking hurt too bad.
(When I was young my eyebrows looked a little like Brooke Shields' brows, except I think mine were just a little thicker. They had no shape whatsoever, like Brook's.)
I would look in the mirror and try to pluck, but after grasping one hair, the pain was far too intense to keep going. Finally, by the 11th grade, I had enough of my bushy brows. One night, I got out a make-up mirror, took it to the living room and placed it on the coffee table, where I sat down in front of the TV and proceeded to “arch” my eyebrows. I knew absolutely nothing about arching or plucking eyebrows. I just knew less would be more and I needed to get busy with the tweezers. I used a warm washcloth to help with the sting as I was advised. Either it worked like a charm or I was so determined by this time and my adrenaline was kicking in, but I felt no pain! I plucked and plucked and arched and arched for quite a long time. Finally, I had the skinniest, pencil-thin lines for eyebrows I had ever seen. They were GORGEOUS!! You know how one eyebrow hair looks? My brows looked like I had a single straight line of those hairs above my eyes. Again, they were GORGEOUS! I was so proud and so happy that I would no longer have those unsightly thick bushes up there. It was much easier to keep them plucked now. I only had to pull out one or two hairs a week.
As I grew up and got really interested in make-up, beauty, and such, I decided I should have thicker brows than I did but, of course, not ever like I had before. Anyway, they grew in a little and looked better but to this day, I cannot get them to thicken up like I want them to. My hair and brows are very dark so I found that a blonde pencil used to fill in and extend a bit on the ends works pretty good. However, it’s nothing for me to take a restroom break at work around 11 and glance in the mirror and see that one of my brows has disappeared or is smeared. Well, I do carry touch-up make up with me but half the time I don’t carry it to the restroom. When I do reapply the brow pencil, my skin is usually too oily to “hold” the pencil, so I usually just wipe them both off and deal until the next morning ;-) The things we girls endure to be beautiful!! I work in a department full of men, so none of them ever notice the difference anyway. In fact, one of my male friends (Butch) tells me all the time that we women fix ourselves up for other women because men don’t notice. I would never, ever admit this to him, but I think he might be right . . . . .
